Robert Turman “Beyond Painting” 2xLP

Robert Turman began making sound experiments in the early 70’s employing reel-ro-reel tape, cassette decks, arp synth, drum sequencers, multiple string and percussion instruments, and whatever else he could scavenge. In the late 70’s he co-founded NON (along with Boyd Rice), but left shortly after the release of the Mode of Infection/Knife Ladder 7″ e.p. to focus on composing and releasing his own music on limited-edition, and now extremely rare, cassette tapes. Robert has collaborated with art rockers FZ13, post-apocalyptic industrialists Z.O. Voider, and more recently Aaron Dilloway (Wolf Eyes, Nevari Butchers), Neon Depth and Jandek.

Beyond Painting, with its 72 minutes of haunting lo-fi ambience, is probably one of Robert’s most accomplished recordings. Layers of meditative synth loops, guitar, and eastern tinged melodies, all beautifully delayed, bring to mind blistering desert landscapes, high-tension cold war era spy action sequences, and dark cavernous sounds.

Originally recorded in 1990, these tracks did not see the light of day until 2010 when they were self released on a limited run of 100 professionally printed and duplicated CD-Rs. Beyond Painting follows in the footsteps of the recently reissued “Flux” cassette on LP (Spectrum Spools).

Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk (Mississippi Records, Sublime Frequencies, Grouper, Wooden Shjips, Yellow Swans) at Stereophonic Mastering.

Edition of 500 on 140grm black vinyl in full-color gate-fold jacket.

First 100 copies sold through this website will include a small zine with an interview with Robert Turman, discography and photos.

FAB016 – LAZURITE  s/t  C-36
Fluorescent night dystopian city music.
This is the second full-length release by hyperactive Brooklyn-based experimental musician and visual artist Megan Moncrief. Her first release was a self-produced, self-packaged (each cassette was hand-painted and was one of a kind) cassette whose eerie ambient sounds captured our imaginations. A message offering to release more of her music was promptly sent via the world wide web. Lucky for us, she accepted, and now we are able to offer 36 minutes of amazing new sounds extracted from the ukelin, synths, drum machines, medicine balls, drums and voice processed through a diverse link of effect pedals.
Edition of 50 pro-dubbed high-bias chrome cassette.  Buy Here

FAB018 – SOUND OUT LIGHT  Bloom  C-30
Music like the sound of a power generator in the middle of a vast desert where the escaping ions affect the landscape, creating unusual lifeforms that grow out of the cracked ceramic floor after an acid-rain storm. Sound Out Light is David Doyen on digital synth.

FAB019 – HAKOBUNE  The Still Life of Reverie  C-32
Hakobune aka Takahiro Yorifuji uses layers of guitar to create meditative hypnotic sonic landscapes. We are very proud of this release. Yorifuji is from a small town in Hyogo, Japan and currently resides in Tokyo.Edition of 50 pro-dubbed high-bias chrome cassette. Buy Here

The new Fabrica Recs batch is finally HERE. 3 new tapes, all in editions of 50.

FAB017 – WOLF FLUORESCENCE We’re So Glad You’re Home C-36
Wolf Fluorescence is the solo project of experimental musician and NY-native Ross Devlin. On We’re So Glad You’re Home he conjures long summers, nostalgia for youth, and time spent with family and loved ones. Dream-like ambient music with a warmth that seems to be a missing from a lot of the very precise and clinical-sounding experimental music out there.

Edition of 50 on pro-dubbed high-bias chrome and full color j-card + insert (made by the artist).

New sounds from Silver Spring, MD’s own guitar-drone project INSECT FACTORY and Gowanus Brooklyn’s LUCIERNAGA.

INSECT FACTORY provides two extended guitar-based drones of sounds and textures that meld into haunting yet-tuneful melodies. These two tracks are an excellent companion to the recently released full-length INSECT FACTORY LP on FABRICA/INSECT FIELDS.

LUCIERNAGA, normally a guitar-only project, this time around includes acoustic and electric guitar, mbira, buddha machine, and looped field recordings. LUCIERNAGA is accompanied by Sean Keane (STRNGLV) with additional sounds generated by circuit-bent synth and effect pedals.
First edition of 50 packaged in 1/4″ reel-to-reel box.

FABREC015/IF012 INSECT FACTORY Melodies From a Dead Radio LP
Insect Factory is music from Silver Spring, MD musician Jeff Barsky. Insect Factory focuses on texture and mood, building layers of dense sounds that slowly evolve into hypnotic and
atmospheric drones. Since the 90’s, Barsky has continuously played in bands and improvisational collectives, and has performed frequently on the east coast of the U.S., in Canada, throughout Europe, and Japan. Barsky’s various projects have shared the stage with acts as diverse as Richard Pinhas, Nels Cline, Acid Mothers Temple, and Carla Bozulich, and he has performed at Suoni Il Per Popolo festival in Montreal, Terrastock 7 in Louisville, KY, and D.C.’s Sonic Circuits, Queering Sound, and Fringe Festivals. New (Impulse) Release

FAB007 LUCIERNAGA  s/t  C-47

This is a total “impulse” release, and was mostly recorded over Memorial Day Weekend.  40+ minutes of improvised guitar music/soundscapes.

Side A is subtle, calm and introspective while Side B is dark, angry and annoying. Very reflective of Joao Da Silva’s (Luciernaga) gemini-affected split-personality. Luciernaga is usually a one-man operation, but  two of the tracks on Side A include additional improvised guitar by Mr. Ivan Daguer (of Pastabase Records (Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane/La Banda’s) recorded during improvised jams in November of 2010.

This is a one-time (yes, limited) edition of 30 cassettes on home-dubbed C-47 white shell cassettes packaged in lino-cut printed and hand stamped 18pt. brown 100% PCW recycled chipboard brad pack.
