Luciernaga’s CD-R debut (after 2 cassettes and a split with Insect Factory) consists of 35+ minutes of disintegrating loops, slide-guitar drones, modified vocals and processed samples.
Although there are no lyrics, the sounds on this CD are very much a political statement for human rights, the right to self-determination and against violence. Each CD comes in an hand-stamped and hand-numbered 100% PCW recycled chipboard arigato pak, with full-color art on the front an back, and each copy includes a different card with islamic art on one side and a section from the “Mathnavi”, an extensive poem written in Persian by Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi, the celebrated Persian Sufi saint and poet, on the other.
FABREC015/IF012 INSECT FACTORY Melodies From a Dead Radio LP
Insect Factory is music from Silver Spring, MD musician Jeff Barsky. Insect Factory focuses on texture and mood, building layers of dense sounds that slowly evolve into hypnotic and atmospheric drones. Since the 90’s, Barsky has continuously played in bands and improvisational collectives, and has performed frequently on the east coast of the U.S., in Canada, throughout Europe, and Japan. Barsky’s various projects have shared the stage with acts as diverse as Richard Pinhas, Nels Cline, Acid Mothers Temple, and Carla Bozulich, and he has performed at Suoni Il Per Popolo festival in Montreal, Terrastock 7 in Louisville, KY, and D.C.’s Sonic Circuits, Queering Sound, and Fringe Festivals. Insect Factory’s first release, “Air Traffic Control Sleep”, was released in the late summer of 2007, to acclaim from the likes of Washington Post, the Wire, and Terrascope. Following a recent split 7″ with RST (New Zealand), Melodies from a Dead Radio is Insect Factory’s second full-length and vinyl debut. Melodies From A Dead Radio was mastered by Christopher Leary (Melograf Studios) and the master lacquer was cut at Golden Mastering.

Listen to “Globes” off Melodies From A Dead Radio:
This is a total “impulse” release, and was mostly recorded over Memorial Day Weekend. 40+ minutes of improvised guitar music/soundscapes.
Side A is subtle, calm and introspective while Side B is dark, angry and annoying. Very reflective of Joao Da Silva’s (Luciernaga) gemini-affected split-personality. Luciernaga is usually a one-man operation, but two of the tracks on Side A include additional improvised guitar by Mr. Ivan Daguer (of Pastabase Records (Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane/La Banda’s) recorded during improvised jams in November of 2010.
This is a one-time (yes, limited) edition of 30 cassettes on home-dubbed C-47 white shell cassettes packaged in lino-cut printed and hand stamped 18pt. brown 100% PCW recycled chipboard brad pack.
